This spicy applesauce keeps in the refrigerator for up to 1 month
4 pounds Granny Smith or other tart apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup apple juice or water
Juice of 1 lemon
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1. Place the apples in a heavy saucepan with the sugar, apple juice, and lemon juice
2. Cook over medium-high heat about 10 minutes, uncovered, stirring frequently, until the sugar begins to dissolve and the apples begin to break up.
3. Add the cinnamon and cloves. Stir and cook about 5 minutes more. refrigerate in an airtight container until ready to use or up to 1 month.
Yes, it can be processed. My grandmother use to can it every fall and we would have it all winter long into the spring and summer. It is one of my favorites from her cookbook. Hope you enjoy it- Sara
